The operations of the three Public Ports of Bahia in 2023 reached 12,751,590 tons of cargo handled. The number represents the 2nd highest throughput in the history of CODEBA, the Port Authority in the state, with the Port of Aratu-Candeias contributing 53% of this total, handling 6,684,910 tons, maintaining its leadership in the movements of Bahia's Public Ports.
The Port of Salvador reached 5,510,083 tons, showing a growth of 4.82% in its operations compared to 2022. Also noteworthy are the movements of the Port of Ilhéus, which recorded 556,597 tons, the highest throughput for the port since 2008.
Regarding passenger movements, the 2022/23 season was extremely positive. With the resumption of ship calls and passenger embarkation/disembarkation, the 22/23 season recorded a record in the total number of passengers with 239,251 at the Port of Salvador and 89,992 at the Port of Ilhéus. These numbers reflect the recovery of this sector, which suffered from operational restrictions caused by Covid-19.
Among the cargoes handled by the ports managed by CODEBA in 2023 are Naphtha, containers, fertilizers, wheat, soybeans, cellulose, fuels, passengers, and other products to meet the demands of the state's productive sector.
Container movements stand out, accounting for 36% of the cargo, and Naphtha, which represents nearly 22% of all CODEBA movements. Compared to 2022, cargo handling showed a growth of 0.79%.
