PORT FACILITIES
The Organized Port of Aratu-Candeias has an area of 4,192,842.28 square meters and is located 50 km from downtown Salvador. It is a bulk port that serves the petrochemical, steel, and fertilizer sectors, as well as the Industrial Pole of the Metropolitan Region of Salvador. It consists of 3 (three) terminals, described as follows:
1. Solid Bulk Terminal: composed of 2 (two) docking piers, one with 2 (two) berths, storage facilities (silos, warehouses, and yard), and cargo handling equipment. The berths have the following characteristics:
I - Pier 1 (South Berth): capable of receiving ships up to 250m in length, displacement of 200,000t, and Gross Tonnage of 125,000 GT. It has a minimum depth of 12m (39.37 feet). It has 10 (ten) fenders spaced every 13.5m; 9 (nine) bollards on the platform spaced every 24m with a maximum load of 50t; 2 (two) bollards on the two mooring dolphins spaced 286m apart with a capacity of 100t;
II - Pier 1 (North Berth): capable of receiving ships up to 200m in length, displacement of 200,000t, and Gross Tonnage of 125,000 GT. It has a minimum depth of 12m (39.37 feet); 9 bollards on the platform spaced every 24m with a maximum permissible load of 50t; 1 (one) bollard on the mooring dolphin with a maximum permissible load of 100t; and
III - Pier 2: has a single berth for ships up to 210m in length, displacement of 50,000t, and Gross Tonnage of 40,000 GT. It has a minimum depth of 10m (32.81 feet); 9 (nine) bollards on the platform spaced between 16 and 24m apart with a maximum permissible load of 50t; 2 (two) bollards on the mooring dolphins spaced 253m apart with a maximum permissible load of 100t.
2. Liquid Bulk Terminal: composed of a Pier with 2 (two) docking berths, equipment, and facilities for cargo handling. Its berths have the following characteristics:
I - South Berth: capable of receiving ships with a maximum length of 170m, displacement of 60,000t, and Gross Tonnage of 40,000t. It has a minimum depth of 11m (36.09 feet); 6 (six) hooks with a maximum load of 50t, of the quick-release type; 6 (six) dolphins, 2 (two) mooring and 4 (four) mooring;
II - North Berth: capable of receiving ships up to 220m in length, displacement of 80,000t, and Gross Tonnage of 50,000t. It has a minimum depth of 12m (39.37 feet); 6 (six) hooks with a maximum load of 50t, of the quick-release type; 6 (six) dolphins, 3 (three) mooring and 3 (three) mooring.
3. Gaseous Products Terminal: composed of a docking berth, equipment, and facilities for cargo handling. The berth has the following characteristics: ships with a maximum length of 297m, displacement of 90,000 DWT, and Gross Tonnage of 70,000 GT. It has a minimum depth of 14.80m (48.55 feet); 6 (six) fenders; 10 hooks, with a maximum capacity of 50t, of the quick-release type; 3 (three) mooring dolphins and 4 (four) mooring. There are no restrictions on the use of lateral thrusters at the Aratu-Candeias Port.
It is located in the Bay of All Saints, near the entrance of the Cotegipe Canal, opposite the east coast of Maré Island.
